I seem to be sticking with the attempt to revive this site longer than my previous attempts, probably because cleaning up my Twitter account gave me a goal. That and I remembered that it’s fun to have a site where I can do anything I want. If I want to change the link structure, the theme, delete old posts, the only person that’s going to care or complain is me.
This site is relatively small and uncomplicated, but the majority of the content is 15 years old or more. The first post was 23 years ago. a lot can change in that time. Then again in 2003, the United States had a Republican president and was waging a war in the Middle East. In 2026, the United States has a Republican president and is waging a war in the Middle East. The details change, but patterns and structures remain.
There’s still good content in many of the old posts here, but going through them all to see what still works is a bit tedious. But at least the software (WordPress) is still supported and runs on current computer hardware, operating systems, and applications (the technology stack). Digital preservation is a lot harder when you to have to worry about preserving the content and either preserving the stack in runs on or migrating to a new one. The devil, as always, is in the details.
