Amazon vs iTunes

On a whim today I went looking for this album Spaced Out – The Best of Leonard Nimoy & William Shatner. Amazon has it in 256 kbps variable bit rate mp3, which is what I usually import CDs in. It’s $8.99 and DRM free.

iTunes also has the album but not in the iTunes Plus DRM free variety. It’s also $11.99. So while I own an iPod and have bought several hundred tracks from the iTunes store in the past, I’m taking the plunge and going with Amazon on this one. Competition is good.

A Delicious post on life

Just a miscellaneous post on life etc. I’ve started using del.icio.us a lot recently. I just got tired of lots of links I didn’t use that often in my browser.

Prior to Oct. 10, the last time I added anything to del.icio.us was Dec. 11, 2005. Anyway you can have a look at my links if you so choose.

In other news I’ve changed departments here at Hodges, from Outreach to Library Technology Services, a.k.a Systems. So I have a bigger cube and an office that my cell phone works in, but sadly no pay raise.

Work has started on our new house, earth is being moved. 🙂

MarsEdit

I’ve had a serial number for MarsEdit hanging around since early 2006.

MarsEdit just got an upgrade to version 2 and I’ve been slacking on the blogging front lately so maybe using MarsEdit will give me a jumpstart.

Tourists in the Library

Saw this article in the Univ. of Tennessee student newspaper titled “Library not a place for frivolity“. It’s mildly satirical (in my opinion) but raises some valid points. For example, “why do you come to the library at midnight to get on Facebook?” Or “Why come to the library just to check it out … in the middle of the night?”

I know, the newly remodeled Commons here at Hodges is very nice.. And I’m familiar with the “Library as Place” idea that factored into it’s creation. But is the campus library really supposed to be the new student center? Or a computer lab? Maybe it’s the way libraries have to go in the 21st century but at times I miss the peace and quiet.

Note: I also posted this at LISNews.

One post a month….

Seems to be my pace these days. One day I my get back to blogging. I’ve been pretty busy spearheading the redesign on the UT Libraries site. It officially launched August 13th and it’s a slow process getting a site that big with dozens of people involved updated to a new design. Kind of like turning an aircraft carrier.

In other news still working on getting a house built, the construction loan will hopefully close soon and then the fun will start.
